This talented lady needs no introduction in Orkney. We are very proud to say that Gaby will be publishing her next collection of short stories with Orkneyology Press.
Gabrielle writes novels, short stories and poetry as well as facilitating creative writing groups within the Orkney community. She has a strong interest in writing for wellbeing and believes we all have a creative voice.
For Gabrielle the creative process is exploratory, a journey that includes research, observation and emotional connection. She draws on local history and personal experience to inform much of her work.
Since arriving in Orkney Gabrielle’s writing has gained a wider audience, and her work has now been published and included in numerous anthologies and magazines.
She has published a collection of short stories, The House With The Lilac Shutters and other stories and a novel set in Orkney The Oystercatcher Girl.
She is proud to be twice winner of the George
Mackay Brown Fellowship writing competition.
Gabrielle also
teaches psychology at Orkney College and enjoys being an amateur pianist
and birdwatcher. She loves taking beach walks with her husband and
children, especially when they are followed by homebakes and a hot
flask.
‘I love writing short stories, they combine the
excitement of narrative ideas with poetic crafting in a unique and
exciting way. Each one is a stepping stone to a new place, an
opportunity to inhabit a new voice or experiment with a new style.’
‘I’m so thrilled to be working with Orkneyology Press to bring these stories to new readers.’
